Using Twitter to Build Your Online Community
I am going to try and limit my posts to ones that are helpful to everyone, and where we can all learn something, including me. The past 3 days I have used pretty much only a few ways to get my site out there. I originally wanted to get some paid advertising to start off with, but that will come later, right now we are looking for FREE ways to promote our site. You see that Twitter Icon everywhere, but may ignore it because you think it’s another Myspace. Totally false. What it is, is a great way for you to get yourself, your business, or your website known fast! Twitter is a great way to build your online community. Once you sign up, you will realize how easy it is to follow sites and friends of your niche, and share with them what you have to offer. Which brings me to why I’m writing this post. Yesterday, I wanted to break 100 followers. I had 50 going into the day, and judging how fast I was able to get 50, I thought I could pass 100 no problem. I could of done it by writing some API that every time someone followed me, I would follow them, then go and follow everyone under the sun. Instead, I just laid back and worked on my campaigns and see if I could pass it without following anyone that just followed me for the day. When I got on, I noticed a reply from ShoeMoney! Unfortunately I did not get the official screenshot, but it was just a basic shout out, calling me a cool cat, which I thought was sick, along with a link to my website.
Lets take a look at his stats:
Here is one result from his shout out…this alone made it worth it. Gaining a readers is my goal, and this helped out beutifully….
So, we finally reached 100 users. According to Twittercounter, I will have over 1k next month. I will believe that when I see it, but this just shows what a usefull tool this can be, and easily applied to your website.
If you have a twitter account, leave it in the comment below, and share it. I got this idea from Jim Connolly.
You can check his post out here, so go there and leave yours too! : Building Your Twitter Network

Twitter search (though crap for finding people) is great for brand reputation monitoring/management. It will show every instance of it appearing. Y
ou could even find people that are looking for or mentioning “keyword” in your area to reach out to potential customers. Or people that are pissed with the people currently offering them “keyword.” I dig your site and writing style, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the comment, and the compliment!
Great ideas. I agree, it would be extrememly helpful for a business to use this for branding or management. I’ll have to check out that keyword search tool!
Twitter can work wonders if used correctly to drive juicy traffic to your website.
Twitter is definitely the future of micro blogging but for now, I’m not using it as much as I should have to.
Hmmm, on last count, I have only 140 followers. Probably I should focus on building more followers and maximize its potential.

Oh I forget to mention. I’ve just followed you so I’m hoping you’ll do likewise.

Hey Yan,
I was already following you! I’m surprised you only have 140 followers! Your blog is insane. If you guys haven’t checked out, http://thoushallblog.com , your definitely missing out. I’ll be adding a blog roll soon, and I’ll be adding this site. Thanks for commenting!
Unrelated note, looks like everyone’s heads are getting cut off! Another bug I’ll have to fix. One bad thing about a custom theme.
I have only been using Twitter for a few months but have only gotten really active in the past month and a half. I can tell you it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Seriously. I have made some great business contacts in the short time that I have been using it. It is definitely a part of my long term business and marketing plan. I’m trying to break 400 followers today.
Anyone that would like to follow me on Twitter I’m @the_gman
PS: adding yourself to the various Twitter directories is a great way to be found and have new followers.

Hey man. This is a nice WP theme. I like those subtle ad icons at the top, very nice.

Thanks for making it to my site! I’m a frequent reader of yours. I’ve been designing this theme from the ground up. I will post how you can add those tabs to your site also. It is ajax, so you’ll need to know a little php and javascript. I just need to fix that Avatar glitch first in IE!
Just to add to this post. I actually closed my first Twitter follower customer yesterday. Now my service is a little bit more expensive than a loaf of bread so to me I am 100% sold on Twitter as an invaluable social media/ marketing tool. However that being said It’s worth noting that I don’t spam or advertise myself on Twitter. I mean I’ll post relevant links regarding SEO and whatnot but I don’t bomb my links I just interact naturally with other Tweeple and they seem to respond positively to that.
